About us

Who we are

The Institute for Development of Community Strengths (INDECOS) was established in 1991 during a period of social and economic disruption in Southern Sri Lanka. At a time when many systems had paused, a group of committed professionals came together with a shared purpose — to stay engaged with communities and support them through change.

Today, INDECOS works across Galle, Matara, and Hambantota as a community development and training-based organization. Our work is grounded in participation, where people are not just part of programs, but part of the thinking, the decisions, and the way forward.

Across education, awareness, and community initiatives, we continue to create spaces for dialogue, learning, and collective action.
