Empowering Futures: FEMThrive Parents’ Orientation Program
On March 20, 2026, INDECOS hosted a successful Parents’ Orientation Program under the FEMThrive Project at our Matara headquarters. This vital session was designed to bridge the gap between educational opportunities and family support, ensuring parents and guardians are fully informed about the scholarship pathways available to their daughters.
Building a Foundation for Success
The primary goal of the orientation was to provide a transparent look into the FEMThrive scholarship program. We believe that when parents understand the course structures, expectations, and long-term benefits, they can better support their daughters in achieving their professional goals.
The event saw an impressive 80% attendance rate, with 22 parents representing the Matara and Dondra DS Divisions.
Key Highlights & Insights
The session was led by Mr. Amila Eranga, a representative from the National Youth Service Council – Matara. His comprehensive presentation provided clarity on several critical areas:
Vocational Training: Detailed overviews of available courses and their durations.
Financial Literacy: Transparent information regarding payments and scholarship financial details.
Industry Focus: A deep dive into the burgeoning opportunities within the tourism sector, highlighting it as a viable and rewarding career path.
The atmosphere was highly interactive. Parents actively engaged with our team, asking insightful questions about examination processes, course structures, and the specific career trajectories available to their children upon completion.
Collaborative Coordination
The smooth execution of the program was made possible through the combined efforts of the INDECOS leadership—including our Director, Assistant Manager, and Project Manager—alongside dedicated Zonal Officers.
We were also pleased to be supported by:
Two Volunteers from World University Service of Canada (WUSC).
One Intern from the University of Peradeniya.
Together, the team managed everything from participant registration to the distribution of scholarship application forms, ensuring every family left with the tools they needed to take the next step.
Looking Ahead
The high level of engagement and the genuine interest shown by the parents reinforce the importance of the FEMThrive Project. By fostering this understanding within the community, we are ensuring that these scholarships are not just financial aid, but a collective step toward sustainable careers and empowered lives.
“The session contributed to increasing awareness and understanding of the FEMThrive scholarship program, supporting informed decision-making by families.” — Shiroma Priyangani, Assistant Manager
