Introduction
On 11th March 2025, INDECOS organized an event to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Divisional Secretariat Main Hall in Matara. The event aimed to recognize and honour the contributions of women in society while emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment.
Event Highlights
The celebration commenced with a walk involving over 300 women from different groups that INDECOS works with. These women represented various programs implemented by INDECOS in the Matara region. The walk symbolized unity, resilience, and the collective strength of women in their pursuit of empowerment and equality. The walk was further supported by law enforcement authorities, ensuring a safe and organized march for the participants. Additionally, Nestlé contributed to the event by providing free milk tea to the women, offering them refreshment and support during the walk.
The event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including law enforcement authorities, civil society organizations, community leaders, and women’s groups. This collaboration fostered discussions on the significance of women’s roles in society and reinforced the commitment of various entities to support women’s empowerment initiatives.
